Third Conditional - Trzeci warunek

Third Conditional - trzeci warunek

An accident - czytanka z wykorzystaniem trzeciego warunku

George had a car accident last Friday. He spent a week in hospital and now he is lying in bed at home. His best friend Peter has just come.

Peter: Hi, George. What has happened to you? I’ve tried to find you last week!

George: Hi, I’ve just come back from hospital. As you can see my leg is broken and generally, I don’t feel very well. The doctor said I’d had a concussion.

    Peter: But how...

George: I’ve had a car accident.

Peter: Oh no, how many times have I told you not to drive so fast?! I’m pretty sure that if you had driven slowly, you wouldn’t have had an accident!

George: You are wrong! I didn’t exceed the speed limit! And I drove carefully!

Peter: If you’d driven carefully, this wouldn’t have happened!

George: But I did! I was passing the petrol station when the other car suddenly appeared in front of me! I had hardly any time to push the brakes! If it hadn’t been that driver’s fault, we wouldn’t have had the accident!

Peter: Right, calm down now and take a rest. We’ll talk about it later.

Trzeciego okresu warunkowego używamy, gdy mówimy o przeszłości, czyli o sytuacjach, w których nie można już nic zmienić. Zastanawiamy się, co by było, gdyby w przeszłości został spełniony pewien warunek.
