Swing Dancing

Swing dancing is a series of dances that originated in the 1920s-1950s and are danced to jazz music. Among the various types of swing dancing there are:
-lindy hop
-east coast dancing
-west coast dancing
-charleston
-balboa
-blues

Although the types are often interchangeable, and sometimes dancers switch to a different style mid-song, each type has its own set of fundamental moves. Each one has its own "basic" which is a short sequence of steps from which all other moves are built. It is common for new dancers to learn the basic and then several additional moves before going out and dancing socially.

Almost every major U.S. city has a swing scene, that is a series of recurring events every week where swing dance enthusiasts can go and enjoy swing. Often these events are for a small price $5-$15, include a beginner's lesson, and live music by a jazz band. Regular dance courses are also available from professional instructors for a higher price.

Swing dancing is a great way to have fun and meet people in the United States. If you plan to spend some time in the U.S., you may want to look into swing dancing in order to make friends and practice English!
